Grogu is a pretty mysterious little dude, just like Yoda.
They both clearly belong to the same species, although we don’t know what that species is or where it originates from.
Grogu’s existence proves to us that it’s a slow-aging species, given that he's considered a baby and is over 50 years old.
That would explain how Yoda managed to survive for so long.
Beyond that though, there’s not much else I can say.
I’ll admit, I thought The Mandalorian would provide a few more answers, although maybe they’re yet to come in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film.
That being said, Star Wars has always maintained an air of mystery surrounding Yoda so maybe they’re simply going to do the same with Grogu.
It’s really hard to call but, of course, regardless of what Lucasfilm choses to do, it won’t stop Star Wars fans from theorising.
Tales of the Underworld, a new Star Wars series, was just announced.
One such theory over on Reddit suggests that Grogu and Yoda might be one and the same.
“Grogu is actually Yoda and needs to be sent to the past as part of a prophecy to fulfil,” it reads.
“This would explain why he doesn’t exist in the sequel trilogy, and you know Star Wars is all about prophecies. We have not yet seen time travel, but they can make it happen by going through a rare wormhole or something.”
It continued, “Also, I’ve always wondered what Grogu’s larger purpose is. What is his calling? Why is he so important in this new part of Star Wars lore? Surely not to just chase frogs and force freeze a couple bad guys. Could be a nice finale to The Mandalorian when they decide to end it eventually.”
You may be unsurprised to learn though that the theory was met with a big “hell no”.
“This doesn’t work for me. Yoda and Grogu coexisted in the same place and time during Grogu’s early training at the academy. Presumably Yoda was even involved in his early training, as Yoda often taught the younglings and of course he would take interest in a member of his own species,” countered dj-kitty.
“Don’t be dumb on purpose,” one harsh fan simply declared.
“Maybe if we nod and smile, you’ll stop,” added MrDrProfessor-Phd.
