The gameplay of this game retains many elements from previous series, such as Deadly Alliance and Deception, where characters have multiple fighting styles and all features. Here players can design a custom character using the “Create a Fighter” mode. The game also features a story-based Conquest mode. Here the player is cast as the young warrior Taven, who must defeat his evil brother Daegon.
The game receives positive reviews after its release. For a large number of playable characters and the Konquest mode, the game earns powerful reviews. Critics criticized the previous two games for similar gameplay features between characters in the same engine. The game is the first Mortal Kombat game for sixth-generation consoles and the first for seventh-generation consoles.
Game Features
- Each character in the game has two fighting styles such as hand-to-hand and weapon.
- It introduces two new combat systems, an air combat combo system and a combo breaker-styled parry system from the Killer Instinct series.
- Custom Lethal Commands consist of a constant series of commands that players input until death occurs. This method of executing lethality replaces the game’s character-specific lethality.
